FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Steamboat Springs, CO: December 11, 2007: Culinary Manager of Detroit Sysco, Chef Kelly Johnson presented a $1,000 Chefs4Students.org Culinary Grant to student Kevin Heslip at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI. Chef Johnson has long been associated with the Chefs4Students.org program and was instrumental in its conceptual formation, and has participated in Chefs4Students fund raisers.

Joining Chef Johnson at the luncheon and grant presentation were grant recipient Kevin Heslip, Chef Dan Huglier, C.M.C, Senior Graphics Designer, Ellen J. Hochberg and John Walsh, Executive Director of Development and Governmental Relations. Chef Johnson said “In the short time I had to interact with Kevin and his instructors, I learned that he was extremely well respected in the kitchen by both the instructors and his peers. He is a very smart guy and I believe he will go a long way in this industry”

Chef Dan Huglier showed Chef Johnson a menu development project that Kevin Heslip had just turned in. Chef Huglier mentioned that it was one of the best projects he has seen since teaching at Schoolcraft. “Kevin brings a work ethic and sense of integrity that uplifts the entire student body in our Culinary Department here at Schoolcraft” said Chef Huglier.

Kevin Heslip and eleven other culinary students around the country were selected from a pool of nearly 600 applicants to receive a grant this past October 1st. Eligible students must attend a culinary school at the time of the award, show proof of their financial need, provide letters of recommendation, transcripts and a 500-word essay. The reviewing panel consisted of fifteen Chefs4Students.org participating chefs, executive chefs, business executives and culinary professionals from various organizations across the globe.

About Chefs4Students.org

C4S is a not-for-profit organization founded by dedicated chefs committed to giving back to the future of the industry. Chefs from all over the world come together and raise money by booking out their restaurants for food and wine pairings along with silent auctions. It has also been funded by generous like-minded culinarians in many forms including cash and product donations for auctions, cookbook donations and more.

Without the dedicated contributions of the chefs and contributors behind the program, it would not exist.

All proceeds raised at the events, auctions or cash donations go into a fund set-up under the non-profit umbrella of the Yampa Valley Community Foundation located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This foundation over-sees all funds and disburses the money as advised at the time of grant awards. To learn more, go to http://www.yvcf.org. Chefs4Students.org and its administrators do not profit from this program.
